I spent a few hours early this morning checking along Hwy 49 at Horicon Marsh.
12 shorebird species were found with the best being 10 Black-necked Stilts, 40
Stilt Sandpipers, 70 dowitchers (mainly Short-billed), 14 Wilson's Phalaropes
and a Baird's Sandpiper (first for this fall migration for me). Most
shorebirds were at the pump house pond, although 6 of the B N Stilts were by
the historic sign pond.
A lone Trumpeter Swan was by the pump house while one of the two swan families
was across from the historic sign. This is the one with five cygnets. (The
other has seven.)
