I spent a part of the morning checking out the ponds along 49 at Horicon Marsh.
The pump house pond and the pond on the north side of 49 (between the historic
sign and the pump house dike) are excellent. Between these two ponds there
were TWENTY TWO Black-necked Stilts (at least 3 family groups), 4 Stilt
Sandpipers, 10 Short-billed and 1 Long-billed Dowitchers, 125+ combined Greater
and Lesser Yellowlegs, 14 Wilson's Phalaropes plus Least, Semip. and Pectoral
Sandpipers and Killdeer. There also is an excellent number of White Pelicans
and Great Egrets on these ponds. (They are attracting a great deal of interest
from non birders too.)
I seem to be having a little difficulty in getting my posts on wisbirdnet
recently so excuse the following: Daryl Tessen; Pete please let me know if
this gets posted. Thanks.
