Wisbirders-
Sorry for the lateness of this post, but it is the first time I have been
able to use a computer since birding from about 12:30 - 2:30 yesterday in
southern Colombia County. The reports of an Avocet and Buff-breasted
Sandpipers drew me out to Harvey and Wangsness for my first time yesterday,
and I was rewarded with four life birds.

At Harvey Road there were several Pectoral, Least, and Stilt Sandpipers, as
well as numerous Killdeer and Lesser Yellowlegs. I found the AVOCET right
away before my car had even stopped moving, and only stayed long enough to
see Sandhill Cranes, 2 Double-crested Cormorants, and other standard
birds. Unfortunately, I missed the Franklin's Gull.

At Wangsness Road I looked for a very long time at the drying pond on the
right side of the road and listened to the farmer's dogs bark at me, until
the lifting of a wing to preen the under-wing feathers alerted me to the
presence of two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, which had been in my plain sight
the whole time. I watched my second lifebirds of the day until they were
joined on the mud by 2 Bobolinks, then proceeded to Kronke Road to look for
the WHOOPING CRANES. Sure enough there they were, with 2 Great Egrets who
looked tiny next to them.

My final stop was Goose Pond, where I soon found one AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER,
among other standard shorebirds and ducks.
Good Birding,
