It was really cold at Goose Pond early this morning with a strong northwest
wind blowing. Ditto at Schoeneberg Marsh. This was the WSO field trip with
details to follow later. Highlights included hundreds of Gr. White-fronted
Geese, many Tundra Swans and various ducks at the two stops. At the first stop
an Am. Pipit flew over calling. Checks at other ponds yielded more ducks and
geese, including 3 Snows.
The causeway had 2 Mute Swans plus a nice duck variety. Ronan Creek walk was
most enjoyable as there was no wind here. Birds were few however. 16 duck
species for the day.
On the way home there was a Fox Sparrow at a feeder near Mud Lake. Had the
swan slam with 3 Trumpeter Swans along 49 at Horicon Marsh. There is limited
open water along there.
