Good morning to all A noisy, cheerful, gorgeous morning at Otsego Marsh, south of Rio. Most of the following were heard or seen: Great Blue Heron, Canada Goose, Wood Duck, Blue-wing Teal, Sandhill Crane, Sora as well as Tufted Titmouse, Hermit Thrush and the following warblers: Common Yellowthroat, Palm, Yellow-rumped, Black and White The highlight of the morning was an encounter at the back of the trail loop with a Scarlet Tanager and a Rose-breasted Grosbeak sniping at each other in the same tree! I remember my bird-song records when I was a kid comparing the calls of each, but this was incredible. And to top it off, a Pileated Woodpecker comes sailing in to join the fun, landing on a dead snag behind the two! Boots are required here - the lower trail is VERY muddy. Also enjoyed were trillium, jack-in-the-pulpits and a husky-looking Fox Squirrel, along with several White-tail Deer, and we were all serenaded by the local Holsteins.
