I had a nice surprise while filling the bird feeders after I got home tonight. For only the second time in the six years I've lived in my current house, I heard an Eastern Screech Owl in a nearby yard. I wasn't entirely certain the first time it trilled, since I was bent over pouring seed into one of the feeders and the neighbor's dog started barking, but then I heard it (the owl, not the dog) trill again, louder and closer. I ran in and got my iPod, but couldn't get any further response from the owl (or the dog, fortunately.)
