This is very unfortunate. Not only has it attracted scores of migrants but it has been one of the premier locations for nesting Pied-billed Grebes, Coots, Ruddy Ducks, and possibly a few other species of ducks. Because of the geology of the location, I would think that a snowy winter or wet spring will almost fill it up again anyways no matter how hard the farmer trys to drain it.
