Hi all, Between 3:00 and 4:30 Thursday afternoon I watched an adult California Gull where the Des Plaines River crosses CTY N in Kenosha Co. This location is in the new haunts on page 438, Area H, CTY N. This is an excellent place for gulls and waterfowl. The gulls are there because there is a landfill just to the south, and the area fields flood in the spring, giving them a place to rest after feeding. The waterfowl also use this flooded area in the spring. Most of the gulls, including the California, flew east at around 4:30. I would suspect the gulls will be back Friday as they are usually there everyday until mid April. There also were 6 Lesser Black-backed, 1 2nd winter Iceland, and 1 2nd winter Great Black-backed Gull there today among the hundreds of Herring and Ring-billed Gulls. Rick Fare also came and was able to see the California Gull, a lifer for both of us.
