11 members of the Bay Area Bird Club left Green Bay this morning at 3am.
The highlights at each location are:
Buena Vista- WESTERN MEADOWLARKS, GREATER PRAIRIE CHICKEN, DICKSISSEL
(numerous and near the road), 5 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER,
and several GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS. All of these birds were
seen primarily along the east/west portion of County W. LE CONTE'S SPARROW
(one on Townline Rd. just north of Cty W and one on 130th just south of
Griffith Ave), and a single NORTHERN BOBWHITE QUAIL. This last bird was on
the south side of Griffith between 130th and Townline. It was at first
heard, then located on some dead limbs 15ft up in a tree at the edge of a
small woodlot and provided excellent looks through the scope.

Sandhill Wildlife Area- ALDER FLYCATCHER, multiple GOLDEN and BLUE-WINGED
WARBLERS, and a single LAWRENCE'S WARBLER. This last bird was both heard
and seen by a lucky few in the lead car of our caravan. Ty and Ida Baumann
shocked the group by saying that in all their years of birding, this was
the first they had ever seen. Congrats!

Necedah- Several RED HEADED WOODPECKERS, PINE WARBLER, and 3 WHOOPING
CRANES.

Total for the day was 112 species.
