[wisb] Broad-billed Hummingbird--today

I arrived at Tina's and Ray's yard about 7:15 this morning. Joan was
already watching the hummer at the front feeder. I had great looks
at it before it flew off. It would perch on the pole and feed from
the feeder. It returned about 4-5 more times while I was there
(until 8:00). During that time Carl, Marilyn and Kathy also arrived
and had great views of it. When I set up my scope the looks were
especially good. One thing I noticed that I have not seen in the
photos taken yesterday, is that there is a lot of red/orange on the
lower mandible, extending about half way out from the head. This
makes me wonder if this bird could be an immature male Broad-
billed?? I do not have the time to read up on it as there is too
much yard work I need to address this afternoon. Any one going to
see the bird, please check this out.
A quick stop at North Pt yielded 10-12 Surf and about 10 Black
Scoters in close. The 3 White-winged Scoters were out and to the
north, as was the Harlequin Duck.

Another quick stop along 49 at Horicon Marsh showed how much the
water level has increased on both sides of the road. No shorebirds
could be seen today---there is very little habitat. The Peregrine
Falcon and Rough-legged Hawk were sitting in the dead tree. Numerous
Harriers were working the south side of the marsh. The usual
waterfowl were seen, with the majority on the north side and near the
east end. Both Tundra and Trumpeter Swans were noted. The only
geese were Canadas.

A BIG THANK YOU TO TINA AND RAY FOR ALLOWING ME (AND OTHERS) TO VISIT
THEIR YARD AND ENJOY THAT GREAT BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD!!!! I hope
that they will watch how long it stays around.

Good luck to anyone trying for it.
