Hey all- Spent two hours birding the Arboretum this morning, from about 6-8am. It was great. The number of birds wasn't incredibly high, but diversity was good and they were kinda everywhere. Highlights: Cape May Warblers - singing - 6 - is it early for these guys? Tennessee Warbler - singing - 4 Nashville Warbler - singing Cerulean Warbler - singing - 1 Orange-crowned Warbler - singing - 2 Northern Parula - singing - 1 Blue-winged Warbler - singing - 1 Decent numbers of Palm Warblers, Yellow Warblers and many fewer Yellow-rumps than this weekend (though they still outnumbered the others in many places). Picked up N. Waterthrush and Common Yellowthroat and a few Black-and-whites. Also had both Blue-headed and Yellow-throated Vireos, a singing Wood Thrush, and a Great Crested Flycatcher. And oddly, at Arboretum Ln and Marshall, I found a fledgling PURPLE FINCH begging and receiving food from a pair of adults. I didn't realize these guys were opportunistic breeders, or at least started so early. If the south winds we saw last night hold, we could have another good day tomorrow.
