I won't get my Wisconsin first bird of the year until Thursday morning (I've been visiting family in Utah and not paying attention to birds). Wonder what my first bird will be?? But because today was our Lake Geneva CBC, I kept my eyes open for birds along the way. After seeing numerous juncos, crows, gulls, buffleheads, etc., it finally dawned on me that a new year of birding had begun! So ... Dark-eyed Junco was my first species of 2012. A very Happy New Year to all; with best wishes for much birding joy this year.
