The Alerter (or messenger service) is primarily used by system
administrators and some programs to send network alerts and messages to you.
If you have no need for this to be done you can turn it off.

Subject: [windows2000] spam via messenger service

I'm getting a bit annoyed by this new spam which uses my built in =
messeger service (I assume). I guess I'm not sure how turing this off =
would affect me. What do I lose, any comments appreciated.
