leaving it blank did the trick. Thanks. The login box still has the
teletubbie theme to it with the rounded edges and the bright blue color but
that will have to do.

Ah, I see. Damn Compaq. Take a look in that reg path that I mentioned
and see if there's a wallpaper value. If so, try changing it to
"(None)" sans quotes.
