According to this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299357

its not possible with XP. Reading a bit more, it looks like you can reset it
with "netsh int ip reset"

I might give this a try.

Thanks

Try removing recreating the TCP/IP stack... I've not had to do that
under Windows XP... not even sure if that's done any more. I do know
I've had to do it on previous operating systems (before XP). I'm sure
the support.microsoft.com knowledge base would say something about it if
it's possible.

Tried many different static IP's as well as DCHP... no joy.

Possibly a duplicate IP? Assign a static one on the internal LAN and
test
again

Go systematically:

1. DHCP Server or Static? If DHCP, and the rest of the clients work,
you
can assume that the settings on the DHCP server are right. 2. Check IP
Address/Subnet mask/Default Gateway. 3. Ping 127.0.0.1 (Checks the
Loopback
interface) 4. Ping IP Address (Checks TCP/IP stack) 5. Ping Default
Gateway
(Checks subnetting & Default Gateway) 6. Ping other local computer by
IP
Address (Checks subnetting) 7. Ping other local computer by name.
(Checks
WINS if applicable) 8. ping remote computer by IP address. (Checks
Routing)
9. Ping remote computer by name. (Checks DNS resolution)

Report back...

Hi group,

I'm having a problem on a computer here (the Boss's of course). He's
got an
IBM thinkpad running XP Pro. We are a small company, running on a
private
LAN (172.16.1.x). Yesterday, the laptop started having trouble
communicating
with the rest of the LAN. Couldn't get email, files, etc. Rebooted, no
joy.
Checked his settings, all are normal. Checked all the cabling as well,
its
all good. I hooked him up to our ISP's network connection, and it
works
fine. The only way I can currently get him acess to the office network
is to
have him VPN from the outside network in. Obviously, less than ideal!
;)

Whats really strange is that when I hook him up to the internal LAN,
he
can't even ping anything by IP, it all times out. Doing a route "print
looks" fine. Either I'm missing something completely obvious (possible,
2
year old keeps me awake alot), or something on his laptop is really
fried.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks,
