I'm trying to apply registry tweak #2 shown here

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodt
echnol/windows2000serv/tips/regtweak.asp

but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyone know what's up with that?

My original goal was to find a way to show the person's IP address on
their desktop, however it has to survive changing of wallpaper, so the
sysinternals or whoami programs aren't sufficient. I was thinking of
trying to load the IP into an environment variable, then adapt the above tweak
for my network places, but I'm not having much luck. Does anyone have a
better plan?

From: "Jim Hathaway" <JimH@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> #2 mentions changing the security permissions on the particular regkey mentioned. If that's what you want to do remotely or through scripts you can set reg perms on remote computers in a variety of ways.

But your post sounds like you want to change a remote machine's reg
value, not reg permissions.

Which is it?

Oops, sorry, #3 I know how to set registry values both locally and remotely, the problem is that when I change the value it doesn't affect the My Computer icon even after a reboot. (though it shouldn't require that, just a refresh)
