ICMP = Internet Control Message Protocol Its the protocol used to send error and control messages. Check out RFC 792 for more info. Ping uses icmp for example to check if a host is alive or not. The router was set up by someone else; or perhaps even preconfigured like that when we got it. I know for certain that no one here has any experience with Cisco routers (which is what we have) and therefore cannot diagnose anything like what you're talking about.
