That's not entirely correct. The PDC Emulator provides several services = in Native Mode. It's acts as a PDC for downlevel clients, it's the = time source for the domain, and it also has a few other = responsibilities. Regardless of mixed/native mode. Mixed mode simply allows existing NT 4.0 BDCs in the domain to exist. = (yes there are few other minor things with mixed-mode like TS Licensing = but that exception was really to allow for W2k TS to run in a NT4.0 = Domain) Joe -----Original Message----- From: Etts, Russell [mailto:retts@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, November 25, 2002 2:25 PM To: 'windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [windows2000] Re: PDC Emulator Hi Rod A PDC Emulator is a FSMO role used in a mixed domain to act like the PDC = to the NT 4.0 servers. And, as I've mentioned on this list before, I'm a Windows 2000 administer, by virtue of the fact that the regular system administer has quit. OK, so I'm asking what for most of you is a simple question. In class, the instructor has mentioned several times something called a "PDC Emulator". I know, from NT domains, that "PDC" stands for "Primary Domain Controller". From this class I'm getting the distinct feeling that in a Windows 2000 Active Directory network, in native mode, that there isn't a primary domain controller. =3D20 So, what is the "PDC Emulator"?
