Yeah, it's unfortunate... However, this will be the data for our students transcripts. We're switching to a new system shortly - we want to have something on DVD for backup. This will allow our admissions department to reach back and get things as they were prior to our migration. The likeliness of requiring this is slim but nonetheless, I'd like to ensure it works. As for the name field being all one... I thought of that, in fact, I set it up that way the first time... What happens when they want to search? I'm sure I can set things up so they can do a search for the whole field and do like statements... Then they'll see all students with De Los% or something like that... That sounds reasonable, no? -----Original Message----- From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Costanzo, Ray Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 10:04 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: OT: Programming question > -----Original Message----- > From: Angus Macdonald [mailto:Angus.Macdonald@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] > > I don't think you'll manage it without a program equivalent to an > experienced human brain. Tru dat. :] If it's an option, I would just use a NAME field and not try to split it up into first name and last name. With the way things are, it is not anywhere close to reasonable to request otherwise.
