The Computer Browser service should be unnecessary in your environment on a
workstation. Domain Controllers should win the election for Master Browser.

Check server event logs. These may give you something searchable to start
on.

DNS configured correctly? If we assume you can ping a DC, are SRV records
ok? DNS is where your clients will look for a DC to authenticate.

The clients are W2K Pro and Win XP. The domain is W2K AD (mixed mode) with
WINS in place.

Subject: [windows2000] Network places and browsing

Hello,

I have several machines/users that are unable to browse the network places.
They receive an error message saying that the domain is not accessible and
that they might not have permissions to use this network resource and that
the network path has not been found.

I verified the correct TCP/IP settings. I turned on NetBIOS over TCP/IP and
also made sure that the computer browser service is running.

Any idea what else to look for?

Thanks.

Christoph
