Did that now too, and no luck, it is probably a registry key that needs to
be turned on, or off, or deleted, or shot..

It is annoying, since it is happening on two different machines in two
different locations, with different cards, annoying, and confusing, and I
just got new speakers too!

Hmmmm.. I'd be removing the sound card from Device Manager, running
RegClean, then setting up the device again.

Yes it did work on Win2k, and according to device manager the sound card
is
working properly. That is what's perplexing, it should be working no
problem, except in the Sounds and Audio applet, it displays "no playback
device", or "No Audio Device" but when you click on the hardware tab of
that
same applet, the card shows up, click on properties, "This device is
working
properly". It should say "This device is working properly, I just don't
want you to use it!" This is happening on my test server at work, and
at my
home. I have used 3 different cards with the same result, so I know it
is
not a case of the cards being defective. The cards are even different
brands.

Well, in that case, the sound driver is not working properly, or the =3D
sound card is defect.
Did the soundcard work on win2k????

Well I tried that, and still no sound, just grayed out stuff in the =3D
Sounds
and Audio Devices Applet. I know there has got to be something I am
missing,=3D20

I just installed .NET server RC1 on a IBM Netfinity 3000, and the audio
=3D
=3D3D
works fine.
By default, the multimedia tools are not installed, and since the sound
=3D
=3D3D
level was low, I had to install the multimedia tools (add/remove =3D3D
programs --> windows components --> accesoires and utilites --> =3D3D
multimedia) before I oculd adjust the sound level......But it works for
=3D
=3D3D
me.=3D3D20

So far that is the only problem I have. It installed nicely, seems to =
=3D
=3D3D
run
smoothly, so far all my apps are working with it. Just no one can answer
this Audio Device problem. I saw one posting on it in some newsgroup =
=3D
=3D3D
from
Microsoft, not the official one, some other one, but no one had a reply
=3D
=3D3D
to
it. Someone else out there has to have encountered this.

Collin,

I've got .Net RC1 running, but I have not installed a sound card into =
=3D
=3D3D
it.
If I get the chance I may try it. From what I've seen it appears to be
pretty solid though.

Anyone else out there install .Net RC1 and find they have no sound? It
shows that it recognizes the card in Device Manager and the Hardware Tab
=3D
=3D3D
of
Sounds and Audio Devices. But when you look at the Audio, Volume, or =
=3D
=3D3D
Voice
Tabs, they are grayed out and show "No Audio Device". Device manager =
=3D
=3D3D
says
it is working properly. I have the same problem, even if I switch Audio
cards around. Right now I am using a Soundblaster Live 5.1 card.

Anybody else see this?

Thanks,
