Nope. //intranet nor http://intranet work. Turned the proxy off but no joy
there either. So I'm fairly stumped.

If you go to IE and type //intranet or http://intranet in the address space
do you get to the site?
If you type http://www.intranet I am thinking you do not get the site or
does that happen with the above addresses also?
I can access 3 of my servers by using their computer name in IE just by
typing http://computername in the address space. This happens just because
there is a host name in DNS for these servers and IIS is running on those
servers.

Its internal, the name is just intranet. I added an FQDN of the webserver
for host and then add a CNAME for intranet. Pinging intranet resolves to an
FQDN of the proper IP but not when using IE

What record did you add to the DNS server so it would know to direct the
user to that server if they asked for www.whateverthenameis.com
When you say it will resolve at the command prompt, are you asking for
www.whateverthenameis.com or whateverthenameis.com?

No it will resolve if I go to a command prompt but it will not resolve in IE
