Just for the hell of it, add an entry to the local hosts file on the server,
using intranet as the name and whatever its public IP is as the IP to lookup
on.

Then see if you can access the site from the server itself by using
"intranet".

What kind of web server is this, out of curiosity?

Correct Andrew, this is an intranet hence DNS resolution needs to be done
internally

That's not going to work if I'm correctly assuming that their "intranet" DNS
entries are distributed from a local nameserver rather than a public one.

Try on www.dnsstuff.com <http://www.dnsstuff.com/> to check if DNS system
is resolving your site name and address.

Working on an intranet web site. All works fine when hitting the website
with the internal IP. However, when trying to access by name "intranet", it
cannot find the page. Intranet is defined in DNS and if I ping intranet, it
will reply back with the appropriate IP. Any ideas as to why the browser
will not respond to the friendly name?
