[windows2000] Multiple AD, 1 DNS domain name

We are an educational institution that is considering a physical zoning of Lab's and Administrative domains. We want Active Directory to manage both areas. I understand we need to AD implementations and thus 2 forests. But, can they both have the same root DNS domain name (ie. xxxx.edu)? Or, do they need different DNS domain names (ie. xxxxadm.edu and xxxxlab.edu)?

BTW: this could be either Windows 2000 or 2003.

Thanks for any input.
