Hi Dan

Thanks for the link to the Knowledge Base article. We have change the
sercurity for the Terminal Server Users to Read Only in the Classes area of
the registry. So far so good.

Thanks

Stephen

Hi Stephen

Make sure you change the keys value so users cannot change the association
too.

Cheers
Dan

Hi Daniel

Thanks for the info.
I checked your link and I found that the only group with special
permissions to this part of the registry is the Terminal Server Users
group.
So I'll reduce their permissions and see if this helps.

Thanks

Stephen

Hi Stephen

There is a registry key which can be altered to stop changes being made,
but
this should by default be set to no change:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;257592

Hope that helps

Cheers
Dan

Subject: [windows2000] File Association Problems

Hi There

I have some trouble with files associations on our W2K TSE with MF 1.8
servers.
The problem is that some file associations are being change either by a
program or by a user, and we can't find out who or what is doing it.

Is there any way that file associations can have some kind of security put
on them so that they can never be change by a program or user?
At the moment users can't change the file associations through Windows
Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - File types since this is greyed out by
default on the servers.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Stephen
