Playing audio cd's in winamp pro 5.05

HI all.
Just wondered if anyone knows the answer to this question.
basically when playing an audio cd in winamp pro 5.05, the drive spins up
and it's as if your drive is playing the audio cd at like 52x which you
don't need to play an audio disc.
Does anyone know if it's possible to tell winamp to only play audio discs at
1x?
I've looked through the winamp preferences and also looked in the cd line
configuration options under input without success.
Any info from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
