Hello, I'm here. I haven't been active much. for the past six months ago my computer was in and out of the repair shop and finally in mid-April the power supply and system board both shorted. Now $900 later I am the proud owner of a Hewlett-Packard a450n. It has a three gigahertz Pentium four processor with 512 megabytes of RAM, a 160 gigabyte hard drive, a CD ROM drive, a CDR/RW-DVDr/RW+, a 3.5 floppy drive, six USB ports, a firewire port, a flash card port, and the usual other features. A high-performance PC but the other should not have turned to a piece of junk after only 3.5 years. Fortunately, I had backups of everything, but restoring data, transferring data from my old hard drive, and installing programs during the past three weeks have not been my definition of a good time. After configuring windows XP, installing MS Office, and loading my e-mail backup, I installed winamp. I ignored the hysteric come ons for the pre-installed RealOne player, windows Media Player, and Music Match Jukebox on my computer. for listening to great timeless music, like Van Morison's tupelo Honey which I am listening to now, there is nothing like winamp!! for those not familiar with XP, the start menu lists in order the most frequently access programs. it is no surprise that winamp is #1 on the list. yesterday, I got around to enhancing winamp with the MP3Pro plugin. I forgot how nice this add on was. I couldn't believe it but the best MP3 player got even better. Oh yeah, I still use RealOne and windows media, but not by choice and only for talk and spoken word programming. The BBC, the BBC world Service, the CBC, WABC Radio, and Air America broadcast only with Real audio. theStreet.com and EBookworm both are in windows media.
