I don't know for sure, but it seems that some system files are corrupted.
That's when win2k loads the basic kernel and drivers. Try a system restore
in setup from the cd.

Subject: [win2kforum] Operating System glitch

Hello Everyone,

Here is a puzzle for you. The following incident occurred once before
about four months ago. It occurred again this morning and now seems to
be fine. Famous last words....

I have a Dell Dimension L600cx 600mhz Intel Celeron computers with 128
MB of RAM. Version A09 BIOS. A Western Digital 30 Gig Hard drive. A
Windows 2000 Professional O/S with SP1.

I booted up this morning. The single beep occurred to indicate all in
fine with the system. Then a few moments later I received continued
beeps. The start bar on black screen appeared where the bar shows the
loading of the O/S before the Win2K start screen appears. The one where
you have the option to press F8 for troubleshooting. Well, the bar
didn't move at all and then suddenly I was at black screen with a
cursor appearing randomly at verious points on it.

I shut down and restarted with the same results. I also received a
print out from the system which reads as follows:

$$$%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%''''''''''''''''''(((((((((((((())))))))))))))))
**********+++++++++++,,,,,,,,,,,...........////////////000122222222223333333

Now, the above indicates that the BIOS system detected the devices and
the single beep indicates that all is well with the world in that
regards as well.

My Question to all of you, Have any of you had this kind of problem and
do you feel, as I do, that it may be some quirk with Win2K O/S?

Sincerely,

Charles J
