One point I need to correct, my client i am trying to add is actually a = rare WinXP system we have here. As an update I found dcdiag.exe and netdiag.exe which helped me diagnoze = the state of my DNS service. When I ran netdiag I noticed: LDAP test. . . . . . . . . . . . . : Passed [WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC = 'ntserver1.office.snowshore .com'. [WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC = 'ntserver2.office.snowshore .com'. [WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC = 'zoe.office.snowshore.com'. I then tried adding my machine to "office.snowshore.com" instead of = "SNOWSHORE" and that worked. Not sure why. I have always added to "SNOWSHORE" = which is the name of the original NT 4.0 domain which we upgraded from. = "office.snowshore.com" is the DNS domain that all of "SNOWSHORE" resides in. Why would this = be? Thanks, Ed P.S. Why are there so many "=3D" signs in my postings???? -----Original Message----- From: Ed Sanborn=20 Sent: Wednesday, November 19, 2003 9:38 AM To: win2kforum@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [win2kforum] Adding computer to W2K domain - master browser issue too. Hi folks, I have just received an error when trying to add a W2K Prof. client =3D system to my domain. The error is: "A domain controller for the domain snowshore could not be =3D contacted." Clicking help in the error box says: " The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.snowshore Common causes of this error include the following: =3D20 - The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS. - One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to = =3D it's child zone. snowshore . (the root zone)" I have a simple single-site domain. One domain called SNOWSHORE. I =3D have three AD servers. I DO see some DNS errors in my Event Viewer on my AD master: Source: DNS Event ID 4004 The DNS server was unable to complete directory service=3D20 enumeration of zone office.snowshore.com. =3D20 This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from=3D20 Active Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone=3D20 without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning = properly=3D20 and repeat enumeration of the zone.=3D20 The event data contains the error.=3D20 I get one of these for each of my DNS zones. =3D20 I have recently experienced 2 spontaneous reboots of the AD master =3D including a reboot just minutes ago. As the system was about to reboot I got a = =3D message=3D20 that said that the reboot was initiated by the "lsass" process. About 2 weeks back, I did install 2 additional NIC cards so that I could connect the machine to other physical networks so that I handle NIS =3D clients from those networks (using SFU on this machine too). I do not think =3D this has caused my problem but I am mentioning it as a curiosity. The reboots = =3D have only happened 2 days ago and just this morning. =3D20 Any thoughts or words of advice I would appreciate. I would welcome a = =3D way to=3D20 sanity check DNS and also a way to resolve the master browser hopping = =3D issue. Seems as though my Master Browser keeps hoppping between machines. How = =3D do I make that stay with my AD servers? -Ed ----- To unsubscribe, send a message to win2kforum-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and = put "unsubscribe" in the subject of the message.
