Close, Oz, but no cigar :-( Well, maybe a cigarillo.

The UA was pretty much what we would call a Window Manager + Desktop
under X. In use, it was rather like a bitmap-enhanced curses and the
programmer's API was upward compatible with curses. It would certainly
run great with a dmd/jerq/5620 as the 3B1 had much in common with those
devices (indeed, the 5620 was the recommended terminal to attach to the
3B1 if you wanted multiple simultaneous users).

Wily has some similarities with the UA as does 9wm and derivatives but
neither captures the full experience ;-} 

Thanks for the pointer anyway - that stuff's rather cool too!
