Below is a message sent to us by Towson University. Households selected will
first receive a letter in the mail. This mailing apparently just went out in
the last few days. That will be followed up by a phone call or knock at your
door. They will only be knocking on the doors or calling those who were also
sent a letter.
There is contact information listed at the end of the message if anyone has any
questions or concerns.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is placing four trailers
in lot 21, adjacent to the Towson Center, to serve as Baltimore County
headquarters for a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
Baltimore County is one of fifteen U.S. counties randomly selected to
participate in this year’s survey. NHANES researchers will visit a sampling of
households within the county to conduct health interviews. Some of the
interviewees will then be invited for follow-up health exams in the CDC
facilities on TU’s campus. The temporary trailers will be on TU’s campus from
March 18 to May 13. Participation in the NHANES survey is voluntary and by
invitation only.
NHANES has assessed the health and nutritional status of adults and children in
the United States since 1960. Public health officials, legislators and
physicians use information gathered in the survey to develop health policies,
design health programs and services, and expand health knowledge. NHANES data
is also used to produce national references and to create standardized growth
charts for pediatricians across the country.
NHANES researchers are hosting an open house at the temporary CDC facilities
from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5. The campus and greater community
are invited to stop by for tours and additional information.
