Most email clients have moved on a bit since 2003 and many support email lists better now. The two popular oddities are Thunderbird (needs an extension from http://www.juergen-ernst.de/addons/replytolist.html - why it isn't in as standard, I don't know) and Outlook (but if you're on an email list and use Outlook, spam and autoreplies are bigger problems for you - I'm surprised if Outlook users aren't drowning yet). As to b... a few bad big email list hosts (yahoogroups for sure) set replies going to the whole list so that they can sell more adverts. They don't really care about people who embarrass themselves by sending private replies to the whole list. I think we should be nicer and not trick people when they press "Reply" instead of "List-Reply", but I'll bow to the majority if they're stuck with non-list-friendly emailers.
