In your case, you company has $8,500 budget, you are technically savvy, you
are doing a redesign, you know how to do IA, strategy, and coding yourself,
etc. You are a producer/project manager (and likely copywriter) who only
needs the services of one contractor who will be asked to do as you ask
(straight production work). That is a completely different story than the
one we were given in the email, and I agree -- for strict production work,
where you are capable of wearing all the other hats, you can get $1,500 of
design and coding work to make a nice site, but I have yet to meet someone
go from not even knowing how to budget for a site to being the project lead
and doing most of the work himself with one professional. That's like you
deciding to build a house and you're going to be the contractor with a
single carpenter to help you, and you've never built a house before, or
anything like it. Nice way to save money; great way for the project to
backfire.
