[webproducers] Re: building facebook apps

I'm hearing a few reasons for building them. Some is just PR, to say =20
they did it and to see what happens.

Generally this is coupled with a realization that some of their market =20
(or much of their market) is on facebook so it's a good place to reach =20
out to them. From the agency perspective just putting ads up there =20
seems like not taking advantage of the potential for the channel, so =20
an engaging app may be a better place/way to resonate with the =20
audience. Much of it is brand building - some of it is the potential =20
for DM, tracking and engagement.

For the record, the research one of the media agencies did for me very =20
strongly states that apps that take advantage of FB's suite of =20
services and that keep things simple and use the news feed a a way to =20
broadcast are much much more successful than anything that resembles a =20
complicated application or game type dynamic. In other words (keep it =20
simple, stupid and use the protocols that people have become used to =20
and have a proven success rate.
