depends what files you want to have in the end.

If you do not have to do any eediting to the file it
is fairly straight forward.

if you want a windows media file, just download the
free windows media encoder from microsoft.  It will
compress the file and make it internet ready.

If you want a real player file, you have to download
the realplayer encoder which is called helix which you
can find on their web site.  They have a free version
that lets you encode for one bit rate at a time or the
professional version that encodes a file that is  at
many bit rates for fast and slow modems/cable/etc. 
but it has a hefty price tag.

Then if you want a quick time file, if you have a mac
the quicktime encoder is already on your machine and
will give you a .mov file which is compressed.

you can then embed the file in your webpage or just
link to the appropriate file that you created or all 3
versions.
