I would have to second that. Expression Engine (EE) is easy to use
for both the developer and user, especially useful if you have a mix
of static and database-driven pages.
For me the most important thing is that it doesn't force you to adopt
a template-system, which can mean a significant amount of work if you
are not familiar with the CMS but integrates right into your mark-up.
I worked on too many projects where the build up crud of open source
CMS's seriously constrained what the design could do, with EE I
didn't find that to be the case.
I tried EE on our website yesterday, it's now 5 years old and it
saved us a lot.
Comparison:
This first page is the old static page:

You probably wouldn't know but the second page is a database driven
news section/rss feed with links to the individual entries (with only
minor CSS adjustments):

This was a of couple of hours work, even though I had never used the
system before.
As Simon mentioned, there is a free version called "core" for
personal or non-commercial use. Personal licenses for the full
version with additional features like gallery and module so to
generate static pages are $99, commercial licenses are $250.
I highly recommend it,
Florian
Ps: Not affiliated with the firm ;)
