[webproducers] Re: Online PM tools

This won't help all of your issues (I share your pain) but we've had
success with Project Insight from Metafuse. It imports MS files, allows
you to track budgets with ease, and can at least help you keep tabs on
resource allocation in-house. You can also give access to contractors to
update their timesheets.

It's not perfect, but it gets the job done.

We also considered Edison's Attic a few years back but at the time
they'd not yet mastered the .mpp file integration. It was on their
product roadmap. Still, I liked their tool better than Project Insight
in many other ways, and it was tailored for a creative agency. Not sure
what they're doing now, but they may be worth a look.

Subject: [webproducers] Online PM tools

I know this subject has come up before - but i don't know if there was a
'best' solution...
Everywhere I've been MS Project is the prinicpal tool for project
documentation and usually it's not the server edition or even an
implementation with a shared resources file. Therein is just one of the
rubs - resource allocation management remains a challenge and not just
because it requires pm's to actively update their projects every week.

But there are other problems - working with diverse vendors and their
people means we don't have a unified calendaring system and things like
file publishing with version control, task management, publishing to
clients for reviews while also enabling them to see project tracking
status all require separate one-off solutions... not at all practical
and often distracting from the goal of just managing projects.

I've looked at Basecamp but it doesn't seem to have two important things
-=20
1. import of ms project files, or availbility of a similar tool online
that enables you to build a project that shows dependencies amongst
tasks and
2. resource allocation managment showing resource usage into the future

Any thoughts or recommendations for a comprehensive tool that handle all
these issues for a group?

thanks

Rich De Sanctis
