[webproducers] Re: Need a Flash/web designer for 3 weeksonsite...

Andrey:

Wow, this is the big can of worms here! With all the discussion of off
shore IT professionals (big IBM revelation from last week) I find it
interesting that you have put the front-end design/production work in
this category. I have a few questions for the group on this:

Oversight - for a small to even mid-sized job, how would you manage an
offshore work force?

Community - if you keep going to the overseas well for subsidized help,
what impact (short and longterm) does this have on your local community,
who I believe are most valuable in deadline critical situations

Quality - how do you insure quality if your labor force is 5000 miles
away and may not have the same cultural perceptions?

I think this is a huge issue. It may be entirely justifiable to look at
offshore labor as a reliable resource; I think there should be further
assesment as to the +/- of this.

I'm just wondering - does it really make sense to pay contractors $65-95
and more if you can get the same level of quality, turn around time,
experience and all the rest for $20-30 working with off-shore gurus?
What do you overpay for?
