Thanks to everyone who replied to my request for sample interview questions a
few weeks ago. I had an interview earlier this week, and some of the questions
came in handy as far as knowing what to expect. In return, I thought I'd share
some of the questions that came up during my interview (at least ones that
weren't specific to my background):
- What
did you do at your last job? What did the job entail?
- Tell
us about some of the projects in your portfolio.
- Do you have any sales/new business presentation experience?
- How
do you plan projects?
- What
would you do if you felt that an employee was slacking off?
- How
would you deal with an upset client?
- Have
you ever had to deal with conflicts between co-workers?
- Do
you have any experience managing multi-person project teams?
- Do you have any experience creating wireframes?
- Do you have any experience working with content management systems?
Hope this helps,
Matt

It's wrong to be just be looking for a cookbook approach when putting together
questions for an interview.
The questions you come up with need to reflect the specific requirements of
your organization since you're dealing with a broadly defined job title at
best.
Here are some factors you need to think about before putting together your
questions:
- Is this person upper - or - middle management? Do they have permission to
hire and fire-at-will? Will this person be negotiating contracts?
- Is this role creative in any way or is it more of a strict project management
gig?
- How technical do you want this person to be? Should they be able to read
lines of code?
- What is the scale of the project that this person will be managing? How many
people, how long a for a typical project and what sort of budgets?
- What is the culture of the company? Is this a startup (with issues like long
hours and limited funds) or is it a corporate setting (with issues like
politics)?
- Are you looking for a disciplinarian or a consensus builder?
- Will the position involve any "hands on work" (i.e. pitching in with anything
from doing QA to proofreading) or is it strictly management?

Subject: [webproducers] Interview Questions for Web Producer/PM Job
I'm in the process of preparing for interviews for Web Producer or Web Project
Manager positions. I've done research online, but haven't found many examples
of interview questions specific to those roles. Does anyone on the list have
examples of interview questions that might be asked of a Web Producer or PM?
Thanks,
Matt
