I think this is a great start as to things to learn about, but what I have
found to be most helpful in my career is talking and listening to artists and
developers. Take the time and sit with them for 10 minutes, twice a day and
get them to explain what they're doing and why. Ask questions, make
assumptions to them and let them prove you wrong so you can understand why you
are wrong.
As well Psychology classes (and a personal Psychoanalysis if you're lucky)
definitely helps. As a producer you there to facilitate everything to make the
job easy, beautiful and profitable. This means listening and understanding how
your bosses work, your artists and developers work and most especially how your
clients work. You need to be able to react calmly and with a clear head to
everything because you are the point of contact for everyone. You are the eye
of the storm that is production and if you collapse, the entire project does as
well.
I could go on and on about this, but that should be enough to get you started
along with the other advise from everyone else on this list.
Thanks,
Ken
