[webproducers] Re: How Do I Become A Web Producer?

Hi Hashim,

Welcome to our wacky world! I *love* the quote in your email.

The web producer role does not have any standards as you can see when
looking at various job listings. I believe what makes a great web producer
is -- someone with a clear understanding of all the bits and pieces in the
Internet arena and can use those to approach content creatively and
effectively. I would suggest having a strong (or at least basic working
knowledge) of the following:

* An approachable manager with a willingness to brainstorm and listen to
others
* Content management
* Editorial practices
* SEO/SEM/PPC/CPA
* Web Analytics
* Social Media
* Online Community Management/Facilitation
* Advertising
* Marketing
* Networking
* Interactive tools (video, content, community, user generated content, etc)
* WHATEVER ELSE YOU CAN FIND

Hope this helps!
Cortney

Subject: [webproducers] How Do I Become A Web Producer?

Hello,I joined this email list some weeks ago to learn how to become a web
producer.
I've been working as a journalist for about 5 years, but my current job is
as a web producer for a TV show. I have decided to switch from journalism as
a career, and pursue web projects.

I know how to work within the system my job has set up, but I don't know the
standard theory, art, and technique of web producing.

Can you help me?

I plan to take continuing educations classes in Project Management and also
Online Marketing.

Is there something else I should study, read, or pursue to break into Web
Producing?

Thanks for your help.
