I guess I am in the 20 somethings category, and an AVID user of
Facebook (not so much MySpace) so this conversation is very
interesting because I didn't think the FB phenomenon would seem so
strange to anyone.

The reason it has taken off is because it started as a service to keep
in touch with college friends (people who went to school in the US).
So people felt more of a connection. Recently they started developing
open source apps to add to facebook. Most of them are quite useless,
to be honest.

I have personally used it for marketing as well and it wroks great!
It's not shady like MySpace. You have the leverage for editing privacy
settings for every single little item displayed. It's great!
