my experience is that the GUID is only used once at install time.
Afterwards the name is stored somewhere else in the registry. That would
mean, rebooting would not help. Can anyone confirm?

I am not in position to be authoritative on anything, but if I
understand your question correctly and if Vista handling of KS
categories is not totally different than XP's, then yes - those GUIDs
should only be registered once at installation.

That would mean it is not possible to change the name dynamically. You can register as many names in your .inf file as you like, but only one of them is used. That is the corresponding GUID which is selected when your driver is loaded for the first time. It does not matter that your driver selects another GUID when it loads the second time. The name still remains the same.
Is that correct?
