2008 ILRID CONFERENCE
“STREETS OF PROFESSIONALISM-PAVING THE WAY”

November 6-8, 2008
Champaign, IL

2008 ILRID CONFERENCE PRESENTERS
PROPOSALS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL JUNE 1, 2008

Just some of the areas that will be of interest to the members are papers representing current research studies related to linguistics, culture, and interpreting; interpreting in various settings, i.e. culturally diverse situations, deaf-blind, Certified Deaf Interpreters, legal, medical, mental health, performing arts and religious setting. Non-interpreting related topics will also be considered. The conference is designing a program around 3 hour blocks of time.

Compensation
Registration: Complimentary
Travel: Reimbursement up to $200 with receipt
Lodging: Overnight accommodation
Presenter Fee: $200 for a 3 hours presentation.
Presenters chosen for the conference will be expected to make preparation materials available to the interpreter coordinator one month prior to the conference.

Application Process
In order to be considered as a presenter at the 2008 ILRID Conference, please follow this procedure:

1) Complete application form (provided in a separate file).
2) Provide an electronic copy of your proposal, which should not exceed two pages in length. 3) Provide a clear outline of your educational objectives for your proposed presentation. 4) Provide a one-paragraph summary of your proposal suitable for a description in the program book. 5) Provide an electronic one paragraph biographical sketch of the presenter(s).
6) Provide a resume.

PEPNet C-Print, TypeWell Stipend Extended

PEPNet-Midwest is extending a reimbursement opportunity to individuals in the Midwest Region who successfully complete C-Print or TypeWell training between 10/1/07 and 9/30/08.

PEPNet-Midwest Region: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin

Training must be completed between 10/1/07 and 9/30/08. Successful completion is determined by C-Print and TypeWell training programs.

Stipends are awarded after training is complete and paperwork is received. A total of 10 C-Print training stipends and 10 TypeWell training stipends are available for reimbursement between 10/1/07 and 9/30/08.

The maximum individual reimbursement is $300.

Educational Interpreter Needed in Jakarta Indonesia: August-June 08/09 School Year

On an annual basis, our family seeks to hire a qualified & experienced educational interpreter who would also like the adventure of working overseas. This exciting position would provide educational interpreting for our 11 year old deaf son who attends an English language-based school. In addition, professional opportunities exist to be involved with deaf community educational projects. This position is for the term August 2008 through June 2009.

Although the salary is not commensurate to that received in the U.S.A., we provide your own private housing, utility stipend, flights, visas’ fees, daily transportation (during working hours), and medical health insurance from the USA, making it possible to enjoy life and travel within Indonesia. Candidates should have a sense of adventure, are confident, and able to work with a high degree of independence, as well as being skilled as an interpreter, having had experience working with deaf children. Both male and female candidates are encouraged to apply.
