Hi Peter, Good points. Here are the answers: 1 - Yes, you do need to uninstall before installing any new beta - trying to support upgrade integration is a bear code-wise and isn't likely to be added to the product given our available time; 2 - Yes, you still need virtual ports. The idea is that no traffic can get to/from your application without SurfaceReader knowing about it and, in the case of ID and ScreenReader modes, blocking it. This is the bit that trips folks up until they get their head around the wiring. The simplest way of thinking about it is that your physical ports only ever talk to SurfaceReader, whilst your application only ever talks to virtual cables. SurfaceReader acts as the link between the two sets of I/O. 3 - I wouldn't go down the native route until you're more familiar with what's going on, though I'm very interested in doing this a little later, given the number of people who use this device in native mode (I think Phil Muir's documentation was for native mode). Your FW1884 documentation should tell you how to get the unit into Mackie mode then you just delete your native control surface entry in Sonar's Control Surfaces dialog and replace it with an entry for Mackie Control using virtual cables 1 and 2. Best wishes. Some more basic questions to help get me up and running please: 1. It seems that each time you install a new beta version, you first have to remove the previous one rather than just installing over the top. Is that right? 2. I plan to use the FW1884 with Sonar. In the SR "Add surface" dialogue, the FW Control MIDI port, which is what Sonar uses, shows up. Do I still need to install virtual MIDI cables with MIDI Yoke, and how will that affect normal Sonar use if at all? 3. From what Tim said, the best way to start testing will be to switch the FW to emulate Mackie. I need to figure out how to do that, and again how that will affect the Sonar set-up. The alternative would be to start trying to get SR to learn FW native controls. Any thoughts on how to proceed very welcome.
