[VISTA] Re: Vista Business and Hard Drive Issue

I didn't get the IDE thing either, and I haven't heard of anyone else having
this problem. So, it's either my user error or some unique combination of
hardware that I have, reckon. It doesn't much matter these days, because my
Vista machine has been sitting around untouched for 8 days now. Out of
nowhere, the thing suddenly is unwilling to save my network settings. I go
in and configure things and OK out, and it reverts back to DHCP. (I know I
can leave it like this and work around it by configuring DHCP on my network,
etc., etc., but that's not the point here! :) ) This is just one of many,
many problems that I've had with this OS. Aside from the application-level
volume control and the breadcrumb-style Explorer address bar (with the path
still available with an ALT+D!), this OS does nothing but annoy me. I hate
to jump on the Vista-bashing bandwagon, but I installed it as soon as it was
available on MSDN and used it for a while before deciding it's absolute
garbage. I really don't like the direction that things are going.

You cannot access your Application Data folder? If my Vista machine had a
network connection, I'd RDP to it to verify that I can, but I never ran into
any sort of rights-issues with Vista. I turned off that idiotic UAC
nonsense after about 10 minutes of running the OS, 9 of which were spent
confirming my actions.

I don't understand why you had to install a IDE drive though. Although
with my other computer with just SATA drives in it, I had to supply the
SATA/RAID drivers first before Vista would see the drives. Maybe this is
what's happening/happened to you that the drivers weren't installed
first?

Other than this problem and the not liking my SB Live 5.1 soundcard, I
have no major complaints about Vista. In some ways it seems a LOT faster
than XP. Like someone said on one of the forums, it does have its
annoyances! :-( One would "think" with full Admin rights (we're talking
SUPERUSER) you'd be able to access certain folders like Application Data
and what not. So far I haven't figured it out yet. That way I can copy
my Mailwasher Pro settings over to Vista without having to enter
everything again and lose all my filters!

Well, better get my tail moving to go to work!

Thanks Ray!
