[VISTA] Re: Vista Business and Hard Drive Issue

Yeah, I think this is pretty common. It happens to me as well. I've read
about other people noticing such things and being annoyed.

In my situation, it's spinning up/down a really old 3.2GB IDE hard drive. I
have that installed, because Vista would not even begin its installation
process in my computer until I hooked up an IDE hard drive. :-/ It's a
dual-boot machine with XP, and I installed that without this drive attached.
XP didn't care that all the computer had at the time was SATA drives. But,
for whatever reason, Vista wanted an unused IDE drive before it would do
anything. Vista kinda blows.

This is the strangest problem I have seen in awhile. The machine I'm
using now is a Tri-Boot machine. XP (pro), Vista Business and Linux. It
has two 320GB drives in it. A newer gerneration WD drive and a older
generation drive. (Both are SATAll's)

The problem is when I am running Vista. After about five minutes, the
older drive starts clanking and sounds like it is spinning down.
(Whirring sound) If this happened under the other two OS'es, then I
would conclude that it was a hard drive problem, but it only happens
under Vista. The BIOS is updated. Vista has all the latest and greatest
updates from M$ so I haven't a clue why this is happening. Anyone else
seen/hear of a problem like this?
