The (few) touchscreens I have tried have returned mouse position events. I think the thing to do would be to log what events you are receiving and figure out what's going on. Maybe a mouse motion event is getting turned into a mouse position event, either by your software or something lower in the stack? Does your collaborator's touchscreen work fine with other applications?
