[visionegg] counting frames

Hi,
I've been looking through the samples... it appears from the demos that I can have tasks execute based on a time (t) variable passed but there are these f_fabs variables I would much prefer to use. I need to count frames and have stimuli presented on them. Its a simple TOJ task and an RSVP task I want to use. Do I actually have to just present an image on every frame and then time until what I believe is close to the number of frames?
