[visionegg] [Fwd: Vision Egg and IDEs]

Hi Laurel,

I am forwarding your email to the Vision Egg email list because someone
there may be able to help you better than I. I don't actually use an
IDE, nor have I tried in almost a decade. I've heard good things about
both Eclipse and Eric(3?).

It is certainly possible to use the Vision Egg with Python 2.5. I'm not
sure where you note the absence of instructions for Python 2.5, but the
Windows (
http://visionegg.org/Download%20and%20Install/Install%20on%20Windows )
and Mac (
http://visionegg.org/Download%20and%20Install/Install%20on%20MacOSX
)pages both have, at least abbreviated, instructions. Also, I just added
a note about by Ubuntu Gutsy repository to
http://visionegg.org/Download%20and%20Install/Install%20on%20Linux .

Hi Andrew,

I'm a young researcher (PhD student) in psychology, and so far I have been writing my experiments in python -- which I adore, by the way. My supervisor is really keen to try out Vision Egg as well, and I have to say I'm very impressed with it.

However, I've run into a couple of snags and was wondering if you could shed some light on my situation.

1. I notice that most of the libraries required(?) for Vision Egg (e.g. pygame) only seem to be supported by Python 2.4 (not the current 2.5). Is it viable to use Vision Egg with Python 2.5? Are all the libraries truly necessary?

2. I have gotten VE demo modules to run from the command line, but I haven't been able to figure out fitting it into my favorite IDE (Eclipse). Do you have an IDE that you use with it and can you offer any advice/instructions?

I know you must be very busy, but if you have some time spare sometime, I'd love to know the answers.

Cheers,

Laurel Evans
